Guidelines for
the Study of the Mind
(1) What is the Realization?
It is simply this (knocking on the desk)!
It is neither true nor false.
It neither exists nor does not exist.
It is neither the same nor different.
It is neither right nor wrong.
It is neither good nor bad.
It is neither clean nor dirty.
It can neither be added to nor subtracted from.
It can neither be known nor unknown.
It can neither be grasped nor released.
There is neither ignorance nor enlightenment.
It is simply this (knocking on the desk)!
(2) What is Practice?
It is simply this (knocking on the Dharma desk).
If you practice, you've already gone astray.
If you don't practice, you've also gone astray.
It is simply this (knocking on the Dharma desk).
(3) The study of the mind at Musim Seon Center
- Listen carefully to the Dharma talks.
- Let go of all your personal views and focus solely on the teachings.
- Participate in the Dharma assembly and become one with the Seon Master who is giving the Dharma talk.
- Do not give up until this (waving a finger) is resolved.
- Do not judge on your own. The realization will come naturally, so just listen attentively to the Dharma talk with the single-minded intent to study.
- Never think, 'If I do it this way, it will work well.'
- You must first trust the wise teacher who teaches. Without faith, there is no enlightenment; therefore, if you lack faith, do not attend the Dharma assembly.
- Focus only on resolving your own problem. Do not concern yourself with others.
- Do not reflect on your own study. Forget yourself.
- Do not think about methods of study. There are no methods or paths in this study.
- Always keep your mind on this study, but absolutely do not judge it by your own standards.
- Do not discuss the study of the mind with others. Only listen to the words of the wise teacher whom you trust and follow.
